The Christian Education Committee will be reviewing the Celebration Time program over the next few months, so during this time Celebration Time will not be offered. Meeting May 16th at 10 a.m.
During this school year, Exploration Time has been held during the second service for 2nd through 4th graders on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month. The goal has been to engage the children in activities that teach them about worship and mission and have fun doing this. There will be a meeting at 10 a.m. on May 16th in Fellowship Hall for all parents of next year’s 2nd through 4th graders, and for anyone else who would like to participate as an adult volunteer. We need two volunteers to work with the children each time they meet. Our goal is to have eight teams of two people each, who would each lead the class two times during the year. All materials and activities are provided for each session – you just need to enjoy working with our kids!

This fall, children at FPC have the opportunity to participate in three different programs that take place during the worship services:
Children’s Choir meets every Sunday at 9:00 a.m., and is open to children from 3 years old through 5th grade. Celebration Time meets following the Time With the Children during the 11 a.m. worship service, and is provided for children from 4 years old through 1st grade in the pre-school room. A new program called Exploration Time is available to second, third and fourth graders. It also meets following the Time With the Children during the 11 a.m. service, but only meets on the second and fourth Sunday of each month in Fellowship Hall. On the second Sundays, the children will explore an aspect of the worship service, such as the call to worship, the order of worship or The Lord’s Prayer. On the fourth Sundays they will focus on mission projects, learning about mission around the world and helping others close to home. Volunteers are needed to help with both Celebration Time and Exploration Time. Please contact either Sandy Updegraff or Jean Olney if you are able to help.
Linda Knieriemen’s class will begin at 7 pm on October 13 and continue on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. You may still sign up by contacting Linda or the church office.
The class will begin on September 20th and will meet the THIRD Sunday of each month from 3:00-4:00 pm. Confirmation Class is offered for any students in the 8th and 9th grade or those who have not been confirmed and wish to do so.
This is a study that takes us through the entire Bible. It never becomes a discussion trying to find the “right” interpretation or answer. This is NOT an intimidating experience!
We will learn to think like both the people who lived in stories and the people who much later wrote the stories. They were “Eastern” thinking people.
We will look at the dating of the writings. This is important to understand.
We will learn about the concept of “Stages of Faith Development” and how that concept makes sense for both the people in the Biblical stories and for us, the readers.
Having the above-mentioned tools we will read the stories with our imaginations open, listening for the truths that are lying beneath the surface of the stories and connecting those truths with our own lives in today’s world.
It will take 25 classes to complete the entire study. We will begin September 15 in the Café from 7:15-9:00 pm (We eat and drink coffee & tea).

The Children in Worship Program is seeking people willing to teach and assist in the classrooms on Sunday mornings beginning this fall. We strive for four teachers in each classroom so the monthly commitment would be to present the story once and be present for classroom assistance another week. Scheduling is done within the classrooms to provide flexibility. We are seeking one person for the pre-school room and two in the Kindergarten/1st Grade classroom. If you are willing to share some time and love with our children please call Lori Klinesteker at 392-1102. Training is provided.
A NEW PROGRAM for children entering 2nd through 4th grade will begin on Sunday June 14th. The children will have the option to leave the sanctuary at the same time the younger ones go to Celebration Time on the second and fourth Sundays of the month, but will go downstairs to explore ideas about outreach and worship. They will be using the Children’s Mission Yearbook, making crafts, writing letters, learning about the order of worship and working on worship activities to share with the congregation on the third Sunday of each month. There will be a lesson plan and materials provided for each session, but volunteers are needed to work with the children on these activities.
