If you are inclined to make gifts in this manner, one of the most tax-efficient ways to make gifts or pledges to the Church is by means of giving appreciated stock or mutual fund shares. The income tax benefits are substantial. If you donate the actual shares, then you receive the income tax deduction for the actual value of the shares as of the date donated—and by making such a donation you avoid ever paying the capital gains tax on the appreciation.

The Madrigal Dinner scheduled for Sunday December 21st has been postponed. A make up date will be announced at a later time.

During the 2009 Stewardship Campaign, the Stewardship Council asked that, in addition to and separate from each member’s pledge, members give financial support to the Per-Capita expense charged each church for each communicant member. Per-Capita giving supports the administrative costs of the Presbytery, Synod and General Assembly. The first envelope in the pledge envelope box is for this contribution and, if you use this envelope, it will help our church fulfill our obligation to our denomination and to meet the 2009 budget that will be proposed at the January Congregational meeting. The amount requested is not on the envelope but we have been informed that the Per-Capita amount for each communicant member of the Presbyterian Church (USA) for the year 2009 is $23.08. WOMEN’S BOOK CLUB will meet on January 25. The book will be The Story of Edgar Sawtelle by David Wroblewski.
