Cookin’ it…”Bookin’ it”

Mark your calendards for our annual fall kick-off picnic with a new twist. The celebration will be held at the church on Sunday September 13, 2009 and will include the traditional picnic/potluck as well as a walk/run event and a book drive.

The walk/run is a chance to be active and to celebrate with the “Running 101″ class whcih several members of our congregation have participated in this summer. The event will take place immediately after the 11am service. If you attend at 11am, this is your chance to attend a service in run/walk clothing and footwear! Three courses have been mapped to allow many to participate and be active. “Running 101″ participants will run a 5k. All others can chose to run, walk or stroll the 5k (3.2 mile), 1.6 mile or 1/2 mile course. There will be a fun run for the smaller children. There is no official registration for this event and you can decide the day of the picnic how active you want to be. As with any running event “traffic directors” as well as cheering crowds are much needed! Everyone can find a way to be involved.

Immediately following the walk/run we will enjoy hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill along with the delicious potluck side dishes and desserts provided by you. Please bring a dish to pass and your own table service. Please use the sign up sheet on the bulletin board in the narthex so that we can have an idea of how many to expect. The church will provide meat for the grill, coffee, water and lemonade.

As a way of giving back to our community when we celebrate, the session has chosen a book drive as a part of our event. The Ottawa Area Intermediate School District (OAISD) has a need for new board books and books for children under 5. The books will be given to children who receive early childhood services from the OAISD. The bulletin board in the narthex has some suggested titles, but all books for young children will be accepted. If you run or walk, please bring a book to donate for this program. If you are not a walker or a runner, join the fun by watching and contributing books.
